Because we can?Records are made to be broken. After looking up the list of golf-related world records, the most fun and achievable one is the team-based time record for the fastest 18 hole round.
Ourselves and our community.Golf can be fun. However, golf can be time-consuming, boring, upsetting, etc. This world record attempt will put a completely different vibe into golf and how it can be played.Miracle Travel Works is a reputable organization that helps families with seriously ill or injured children, birth through 18 years of age, travel as they undergo urgent medical treatments. All donations through this event will go directly to Miracle Travel Works and their beneficiaries. We will be suggesting our players donate to MTW and asking for free-will donations from our spectators and guests.
Yes.The record we will attept to break is at this web location: https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/64165-fastest-round-of-golf-teamAfter our successful attempt, we will collect all evidence, signed affidavits and submit to Guinness. They are aware of our attempt, have approved us to proceed and awaiting evidence. Once verified, we will be world record holders. This may not become official for some time as Guinness would need time to validate all evidence. Guinness personnel will not be onsite to witness or award us.Due to Guinness guidelines, each individual will not be listed in the Guinness World Record book.
Jester Park Golf Course has generously allowed us the morning of Sunday, September 29th to attempt this record. It may take several attempts to achieve our lowest time. During our attempts, we will have interval time-checks. If we are falling behind record-breaking pace, we will announce a reset and try again.
If we are unsuccessful in breaking the record of 11min 55sec, our event committee will discuss options for attempting the record in 2025. We would use lessons learned from this attempt to achieve maxium velocity and efficiency to break the record. Our organized effort and community involvement into this event would still benefit a worthy charity.
Our strategy is to have nearly 10 players on a hole. We only need one person on the tee box. On Par 3 holes, we'd have 6 players on/near the green. On Par 4s, about 5 in the initial driver landing zone and another 5 on/near the green. On Par 5s we would need a larger number of players. Due to unexpected numbers, a group of golfers on a hole (ex: hole 1) would move to an adjacent hole (ex: hole 6) when they have completed their hole. Players should not expect to make contact with the ball due to the number of golfers in the area. Like baseball we will have center-fielders (designated by the hole captain) to call out their intent to hit the ball as it approaches. Spotters on each hole would help call out where the ball may be landing.Participating golfers are required to walk/run as carts are not allowed during an attempt. Golfers can have no more than 14 clubs in their bag but allowed to have clubs in hand from that bag in their designated area of the course.Depending on the running time of an attempt, our command teams may stop the current round and reset our golfers to position 1.
As we build our list of golfers, some will be designated as drivers, approach shot hitters, chippers, and putters. They key to our success is speed. Adjusting your game to quickly hit a ball at rest will save precious seconds during our record attempts. Put practice swings out of your mind! Our hole captains will suggest you move asside the next time a ball comes in your general direction. For reference Youtube videos exist of single groups racing to beat a record for a single hole.https://youtu.be/-bivaD6uOJ0?si=1atFXoTr3safMQvlCurrent World Record: https://youtu.be/Vf4bD7oq4rA?si=eHg6rhyE26cRCVN6
1. The length of the 18 holes must be in excess of 6,000 yards for attempts by an all-male or mixed team. 6021 yards will be our Jester Park course setup.2. The rules of the golf according to the Royal & Ancient Golf Club must be followed throughout the event. All clubs and balls used during the attempt must be legal under Royal & Ancient Golf Club rules and must not be modified in anyway. This is to be checked and confirmed by the independent witnesses. The participants must play the entire course in order and not miss or repeat holes.3. The timing begins from the moment of the first stroke and ends with the ball sinking into the 18th hole. Stopwatches must be used and a mean time taken from them all at the conclusion of the round.4. The ball must be at rest before the next stroke is made and played from its lie, unless a drop is allowed as per the rules of golf.5. It is permitted for different players to be positioned along the course during the attempt. Players do not need to travel to the ball together.6. All players must be detailed in a log book which included on which hole they participated in and which stroke they took.7. Players can take multiple shots. All shots must be logged in the log book as detailed above.9. It is not necessary to use the same ball throughout; therefore it is possible to tee off immediately after the ball has been putted into the previous hole.10. The use of a golf cart is not permitted.11. If a ball is hit into the rough/woodland/bushes, a provisional ball, as per the rules of golf, can be played.12. Two witnesses with knowledge of the rules of golf must witness every shot played to ensure fair play. It is permitted to have an unlimited number of independent witnesses to aid the speed of the record but a minimum of two must oversee each shot.13. A completed scorecard must be submitted and signed by allgolfers and witnesses at the end of the round. Spotters can be used to find the ball(s).
